Founded in 1951, South-Central Minzu University (SCMU) is a comprehensive university under the direct administration of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission. Located in the city of Wuhan, the political, economic, financial, cultural, educational, and transportation center of central China, SCMU covers a ground area of 1,550 mu and boasts a building area of more than one million square meters. Introduction to M.Sc. in Plant Science
To direct students for successful and productive careers and to prepare students to be leading researchers in the fields of plant resources protection and utilization, the master’s program of Plant Science trains students with graduate coursework, participation in seminars, and research experience with faculty from the College of Life Sciences.
Founded in 2004, the College of Life Sciences has 75 faculty members including 12 professors, 43 associate professors, and 35 master supervisors. With 20 years’ development, the college has gained a reputation for preparing students for excellence in the field of biology, with alumni active in institutions and companies engaging in cutting-edge biological research.
The program offers a series of theory and experimental courses including Plant Taxonomy, Resource Botany, Advanced Molecular Biology, Advanced Cellular Biology, Advanced Biochemistry, Scientific Writing Experimental Techniques in Modern Molecular Biology, etc. Practical training includes participation in academic activities such as seminars, conference, presentation, etc.
During the 3-year education, students will learn to use modern biotechnology and bio-engineering techniques to carry out research on in vitro micro propagation, traditional Chinese medicine fingerprint establishment, and conservation biotechnology of plant resources. In addition, students will master laboratory skills of quality analysis of resource plants, the development of plant endophytes, the extraction, separation, purification of secondary metabolites, the development and utilization of active components, etc.

Fees and Scholarship
Fees
Tuition: 22,000 RMB/ academic year
Insurance: 800RMB/academic year.
On-campus accommodation:
5,000 RMB/year for a double room, 10,000 RMB/year for a single room
Scholarship
••This program provides full coverage on tuition, accommodation, insurance, and living allowance (2,000 RMB per person monthly).
••During the study period, for any student who is absent from class due to personal reasons for more than 15 days (excluding winter and summer holidays), the allowance during absence will be suspended.
••Students shall abide by relative disciplines and regulations of SCMU.
