SCMU is committed to the cultivation of students in their all-round quality and innovativeness. Students are encouraged to work hard for greater achievements with the school motto “Be a Naturally Easy-going Person with Serious Belief and Knowledge”. In the past six decades, more than 110,000 students have graduated from SCMU who work all over the country. They have made great contributions to the unity and stability of ethnic groups, and the economic and social development at ethnic areas. In 2008, SCMU is granted the right to recommend excellent students for master’s programs who are excused from examinations.

With the deepening of educational reform and opening, SCMU has accelerated its pace in international communication. To this day, SCMU has signed cooperation agreement with many overseas universities in USA, Britain, Australia, Canada, Russia, Germany, Japan, South Korea and France. Outstanding undergraduates and postgraduates of SCMU are supported for school-to-school exchanges, and teachers have been constantly sent abroad for further study, a majority of whom have turned to be the backbone in their teaching and research field. Foreign experts and teachers are regularly invited to teach at the university, making admirable contributions to cultural exchanges between China and other nations around the world.

In recent years, SCMU has witnessed a steady and rapid development. It was rated Grade A in the Undergraduate Programme Teaching Quality Assessment conducted by Ministry of Education in 2001 and 2006. It has developed from a college into a comprehensive university. In September, 2003, it became a university co-supported by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and the Municipal Government of Wuhan. In May, 2005, it won the title of “National Model Institute for Ethnic Unity”, an honor awarded by the State Council. In 2008, it won the title “Model Institute” granted by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission. In 2009, it was awarded as “National Advanced Unit in Graduates’ Employment Service”. In 2010, it won the third prize for its great achievements in “Campus Cultural Construction in Higher Education” by the Ministry of Education. For the past consecutive years, for six times in twelve years it has been awarded the honor “Model Institute in Hubei Province.”

At the new historical starting point, faculties and students of SCMU, led by a wise and united leadership, are making great efforts to achieve comprehensive development of the university. They strive to improve its teaching and study conditions, to enhance its education quality, to construct a harmonious campus and ultimately to make SCMU a distinguished university for ethnic groups. SCMU is turning from a teaching-oriented university to a teaching- research-oriented one. SCMU is right on its way to a better future.
